The Most Reverend Alexios Archbishop of Hazleton and Weatherly

Biography

His Eminence, Archbishop Alexios, is the presiding hierarch of the Archangel Diocese of the True Orthodox Church of the Diaspora, headquartered in Weatherly, Pennsylvania. For decades he has devoted his life and ministry to the preservation of authentic Orthodox ecclesial life in the diaspora, upholding the fullness of Holy Tradition with pastoral sobriety, theological clarity, and unwavering fidelity to the patristic and canonical heritage of the Church.

Born and raised in Pennsylvania, Archbishop Alexios entered the monastic life at a young age, receiving the monastic tonsure in September 1977. His early years of service in the Church reflect a steady ascent through the minor and major orders:

  • Reader – Los Angeles, 1979

  • Subdeacon – New York, 1986

  • Ordained to the Diaconate – Pennsylvania, 1991

  • Ordained to the Holy Priesthood – Pennsylvania, 1994

After many years of pastoral ministry, missionary work, and service to Orthodox communities across the United States, he was consecrated to the episcopacy on April 27, 2014, receiving the acclamation Axios. On April 12,2025 Metropolitan Alexy and the Hierarchs of the Holy Synod elevated him to the Diginity of Archbishop receiving the acclamation Axios. 

 

Archpastorl Ministry

As Arch-Pastor of the Hazleton and Weatherly communities, Archbishop Alexios has labored tirelessly to strengthen Orthodox life in the diaspora. His ministry is marked by:

  • Fidelity to the patristic and canonical tradition

  • Commitment to the integrity of the liturgical year

  • Pastoral care for clergy and faithful

  • Theological clarity in times of ecclesial confusion

  • Strengthening Orthodox communities through teaching, writing, and charitable work

He is the founder and builder of several key institutions within the Archangel Diocese:

  • Archangel’s Memorial Park

  • Holy Archangels Orthodox Church

  • Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Mission

His Eminence has also overseen and personally supported local charitable outreach, including food pantry distribution and community assistance programs.

 

Teaching and Writing

Archbishop Alexios is the author of numerous pastoral letters, catechetical reflections, and theological essays addressing the challenges facing the contemporary Orthodox world. His monograph, “Orthodox Year of Grace,” offers a clear and accessible exposition of the Church calendar and the spiritual rhythm of the liturgical year.

His writings consistently reflect:

  • A deep commitment to the continuity of Holy Tradition

  • Pastoral sensitivity to the needs of the faithful

  • A clear voice amid the complexities of modern ecclesial life
